Ballycastle is home of the world famous, historic 400 year-old Ould Lammas Fair. The fair is held on the last Monday and Tuesday of August each year and has provided a traditional market place for various traditional goods including the famous yellow man (a sort of honeycomb) and dulse edible seaweed.
Ballycastle is a quaint sea-side town and lies a few miles from Portrush and Portstewart on the causeway coast and on the edge of the Glens of Antrim. From here, on a clear day, nearby Rathlin Island and even the Mull of Kintyre in Scotland are visible. This is a great place for a self catering Antrim holiday.
The spectacular Causeway Coastal Route passes through Ballycastle. The road passes over the mountain plateau of the Torr Scenic Route past the laneways to dramatic Fairhead and stunning Murlough Bay. This is home to one of the most awesome walks in Northern Ireland. The coast road takes you past Torr Head, Altgore Cashel and O'Neills Cairn to the picturesque village of Cushendun.
