Bere Island, in Bantry Bay, is located about one mile offshore from Castletownbere and can be reached by ferries operating all year round. Although it is only seven miles by three miles, it has a population of two hundred people.

Visitors to Bere Island enjoy The Old Lighthouse, The Martello Tower, The Batteries, and The Beara Way Walk. It is a really beautiful part of County Cork.
