Take a boat trip from the harbour to world famous Garnish Island and explore its tropical gardens heated by the effects of the gulf stream. Have a walk through one of the three nature reserves or a leisurely game of golf on one of five courses all accessible within 20 kilometres. For the fishing enthusiast, try your hand at sea, shore or river fishing. Just a short drive to the east is Bantry where you can visit the famous Bantry House, a large Georgian mansion renowned throughout the world for its collection of art or visit the French Invasion Centre or Kilnaruane Carved Pillar Stone a monument of early Christian times. Castletownbere, an international fishing port and the second largest natural harbour in Ireland is only 20 km away and there you can visit Bere Island by car ferry where you will find archaeological sites dating back to the Bronze Age or take a ride on Ireland’s only cable car to Dursey Island.
