The Gate Lodge - Skibbereen, Cork

The Gate Lodge is a delightful cottage set on a 6 hectare estate on the edge of Lough Ine, 4 km from Baltimore and 5kms from Skibbereen.

This beautiful 2 bedroom stone cottage is situated in one of the most romantic and tranquil spots in Ireland. Stunning Lough Ine has attracted countless tourists, anglers, and divers over the past decades, all in awe of its outstanding natural beauty.

The Gate lodge and Lough Ine House were originally built as a hunting lodge for Lord Carbery in 1830, and this heritage is visible in this very charming stone gate lodge. An elegant stone chimney breast and the dining area set in the bay window, in front of the sea are some of the attraction of this cottage. A Victorian cast iron spiral staircase allures guests to the first floor. Traditional tiled flooring makes the perfect finish to the ground floor. Upstairs the master bedroom has a double bed and breathtaking sea views. The small single bedroom and the master bedroom are both en suite of the bathroom which has a bath, a shower, basin and WC. A bed in the livingroom can be used for a fourth person.

Due to the effects of the gulf stream the water in the Lough is relatively warm, making it popular with divers who come to see the diverse range of sea creatures normally only found in much warmer waters. The Lough is surrounded by lush woodland, ideal for long walks arriving peaceful heather clad summits with outstanding panoramic views of the coastline.

Golfers will enjoy the 18-hole Golf Course located only 2 kms from The Gate Lodge, on the road toward Skibbereen.

Castle Island in the center of the Lough is a great place to take your rowing boat to. You can swim from one of the two small sandy beaches or have a pic-nic. Baltimore, a picturesque village famous for its amenities. You can rent a fishing boat or ask one of the locals to tak is only 4km away ideal for an afternoon whale or dolphin watching, or even for shark fishing! In the evenings why not dine out at Baltimore’s finest restaurants, serving some of the best seafood in Ireland.
