TOWNS AND VILLAGES IN DONEGAL

Greencastle is traditionally a quaint little fishing port and is also a popular seaside attraction in the summer and great for self catering Greencastle. It is located on the east side of the Inishowen Penninsula at the narrow inlet of Lough Foyle and seals are often spotted bobbing about in the water. Overlooking the village are the ruins of a castle dating from 1305, built by the Red Earl of Ulster and later captured by the forces of the Scot Edward Bruce. Visit the Inishowen Maritime Museum and Planetarium next to the harbor. It holds fascinating exhibits from the many sunken wrecks of Lough Foyle.
There are great beaches in the area at Stroove, and Kinnagoe Bay and there is a great walk along the coast from Greencastle to Moville. A car ferry crosses to Magilligan every 30 minutes and the crossing is only 15 minutes making it very easy to explore the North Coast and visit the famous Giant’s Causeway.
