TOWNS AND VILLAGES IN DONEGAL

Inch Island is off the beaten track, accessible from the mainland by a causeway, which is why few tourists visit. It is an area of splendid tranquility with two small beaches and the remains of an old fort. There is plenty of birdlife and a sanctuary for swans. It offers a perfect retreat away from the hustle of daily life, ideal for writers and artists to find space for their inspiration. The island provides perfect serene walks or for a higher view, take a horse-riding lesson with Inch Island Stables.
Not far away is Grianan an Aileach, the ancient Temple of the Sun, christianised by St. Patrick. It is believed to date back to 2000BC and provides spectacular panoramic views over 7 counties of Ireland.
