Murlough Gate Loge is distinguished self-catering accommodation located on the edge of Murlough National Nature Reserve, the first ever Nature Reserve cared for by The National Trust since 1967.
This charming stone cottage was built in 1870s for the Marquess of Downshire and boasts breathtaking views over Dundrum Inner Bay to the North and the famous Mourne Mountains to the South. This romantic luxury accommodation is finished to a very high standard and furnished beautifully. It has 2 bedrooms to sleep 4 people and has an enclosed rear garden, ideal for long summer afternoons and evenings.
Murlough National Nature Reserve is an area of Special Scientific Interest and Conservation as it is home to an ancient dune system believed to be 6,000 years old. The arc of golden sandy beach stretches several miles to the town of Newcastle, providing a habitat to a variety of plants and animals such as rabbits, badgers, stoats, waders, ducks, geese, among many other migratory birds. It is also a great place for seal watching as a large population of grey seals regularly use the area for resting and feeding. The best time to see them is between July to October when their numbers usually peak. There is a boardwalk, suitable for wheelchairs, leading through the dunes to the beach.
A visit to County Down would not be complete without enjoying the magnificent Mourne mountains, the most famous mountains in Northern Ireland. They are a haven for hill-walkers, cyclists and rock-climbers. The internationally renowned Royal County Down championship golf course features tremendous views of the mountains.
Murlough Gate Lodge is an outstanding country house, built for aristocracy and perfect for your well-deserved holiday in beautiful Northern Ireland.
