Groomsport lies 2 miles north east of Bangor on the south shore of Belfast Lough on the north coast of the Ards peninsula. The harbour, where boat trips to the Copeland Islands are available, has a sand beach to either side. Sailing and power boating is popular here and the local Cockle Island Boat Club has a boat house on the pier.
