About a fifth of all Irish seals can be seen from Cloughy rock, just south of the village of Strangford, during the summer. The village is a great base for exploring the world renowned beauty of Strangford Lough, now protected as a Marine Nature Reserve and designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty and scientific interest. There are actually six National Nature Reserves within the Strangford lough area.
