The Potter's Cottage is charming self-catering holiday accommodation set amid the grounds of the magnificent Castle Ward Estate on the shores of Strangford Lough.
Castle Ward is a fabulous 18th century mansion set amid 820 acres of stunning vistas, exotic Victorian garden, pretty farmyard and excellent walking trails. The Potter's Cottage is located on the edge of the estate in the working farmyard near the Lough shore. It is the original potter's cottage and laid out in the traditional open plan style. It is beautifully furnished with 1 bedroom but can sleep 4 people as there is a sofa bed in the sitting room.
Castle Ward boasts one of the finest settings in Western Europe as it overlooks Strangford Lough and the Irish Sea. The Georgian mansion is considered an architectural wonder of the 18th century, being built in both Palladian Classical and Strawberry Gothic styles. Besides from touring the splendour of the house, enjoy the many events hosted at the estate all year long. Children will love dressing up and playing with period toys in the Victorian Past Times Centre and visiting the animals in the farmyard. Other activities nearby include Strangford Lough Wildlife Centre and horse trails at Clearsky Adventure Centre.
Strangford Lough is the largest sea inlet in the UK and is a protected wildlife site. It is a popular sailing area, a playground for yachts with its numerous bays, inlets and islands. The pretty village of Strangford is only 2 miles from Castle Ward Estate and has a small harbour, regular ferry to Portaferry and good restaurants.
The Potter's Cottage is a delightful pet friendly holiday cottage on the shores of a premier National Trust property.
