Sandymount is a village in the suburbs of Dublin City also known as Dublin 4. Sandymount Strand is known as the most famous beach in Irish fiction as James Joyce based two episodes of his epic novel Ulysses here. Seamus Heaney, who lives here also wrote a 3 lined poem about The Strand.

Sandymount Strand is a popular place for self catering Dublin where locals and visitors enjoy the beach and its pretty promenade. It is not ideal for swimming and people and cars have been occasionally trapped by the incoming tide. The old baths, built in 1883 are not in use today and about half way along the strand is a Napoleonic Martello tower.
