About 13 miles from Dublin, situated on the River Liffey, the county Kildare town of Celbridge lies on ground which, due to archaeological finds in the area, is believed to have been inhabited for the last 5000 years.
Castletown House is off the main street and is a fine example of a Palladian House. Cellbridge Abbey (late 17th century) contains the oldest stone bridge across the Liffey.
