West of Dublin by about 50 km, Kildare town, opposite the Curragh, is famed as the focal point of Ireland's horse-breeding and training industry being home to the Irish National Stud.

The area is of historical note, for example the beautiful Saint Brigid's Church of Ireland Cathedral still includes part of the original 13th century building and also a 10th century round tower.
