Just down the river a little form Celbridge in County Kildare, Lexlip lies in a picturesque wooded setting. Lexlip Caslte dates from the 12th century and overlooks the salmon-leap in the river.
The viking term for "salmon-leap" was "Lax Hlaup" and this is the origin of the village's name. There's a canoe event here each year called the Liffy Descent.
