The ecclesiastical and university town of Maynooth lies beside the Royal Canal on the main road between Dublin and Galway in County Kildare. It's near Leixlip and Kilcock.

Maynooth Ecclesiastical Museum and Maynooth castle can be visited by arrangement. St. Patrick's college in the town trains priests.
