Moone is known to have been inhabited up to 6000 years ago. About 1 km from the village, the 7th century Moone High Cross is a National Monument. There is a pub in the village named after it.
The village of Timolin, also 1 km away is worth a visit as it has a Pewter mill and gift shop. The Moone area has many interesting historical and cultural sites.
