Thomastown, was founded as a Norman town in the 13th century and is situated 17 km from the city of Kilkenny. It lies on the banks of the River Nore.

Attractions here include the impressive Jerpoint Abbey, The Mount Juliet Golf Course, and Kilfane Glen Gardens. Salmon and trout fishing is good in the area.
