The Guinness Cork Jazz Festival 2009 kicks off this weekend from Friday 23rd October to Monday 26th October.

The four day celebration showcases the best of jazz, with over 120 acts appearing on 28 stages around Cork City.

The Jazz festival has been running for the past 30 years and in the past has welcomed major acts like Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie and Art Blakely.  This years festival promises an even bigger line up with brilliant acts such as the award-winning musician YolanDa Brown, acclaimed saxophonist Pharaoh Sanders and rockabilly singer Imelda May along with many more. The full artist line-up is available on the official Guinness Jazz Festival website.

There are opportunities to learn more about jazz at the many masterclass and workshop events.  Learn all about jazz, the importance and roll of each instrument, developing ‘one’s inner pulse’ and much more.  Admission is free therefore it is advisable to get there early as possible as spaces are very limited.

The Guinness Festival Club will be located at The Gresham Metropole Hotel and offers jazz on five different stages.  The main concert venues are: The Everyman Palace Theatre, The Cork Opera House and The Triskel Arts Centre. There is also a ‘Guinness Jazz Trail’ which offers entertainment in over 40 pubs and clubs.

Cork is a wonderful lively city, famed for its hospitality so you are guaranteed to have a sensational musical weekend with plenty of good old Irish craic!
