TOWNS AND VILLAGES IN LONDONDERRY
Castlerock (5)
The second largest city in Northern Ireland, Derry is steeped in history. Standing on the Foyle estuary it has been an important port throughout its history and is the UK's most westerly port.
The famous, never breached walls surrounding the city are the most intact of any city in the UK, standing up to 25 feet high, 30 feet wide and stretching for a mile. Built between 1614 and 1619, the original walls are almost perfectly preserved today, making Derry one of the finest examples of a European walled city.
The city offers many museums, churches, examples of Georgian, Victorian, and Edwardian architecture, as well as good hotels, pubs, restaurants and nightlife. The city is steeped in history and the walking tours are highly recommended. Visit the Bogside Artists Studio and take a tour of the People's Gallery.
Derry is easily accessed by road and also has it's own City of Derry Airport.
