Situated just 27 km east of the city of Derry, Limavady lies in the scenic Roe Valley. The Roe Valley Country Park on the Roe River is south west of the town.

The town hosts the well regarded Limavady Jazz and Blues Festival every summer. The nearby 7 mile Benone Strand is designated as a blue flag beach. The town has lively pubs and restaurants and there is an 18 hole golf course at the nearby Radisson resort.
