The Old School House - Slane, Meath

The Old School House is a charming Irish cottage surrounded by outstanding archaeological heritage sites, located in the village of Lobinstown, 10 minutes from the famous Slane Castle.

This Ireland self-catering cottage was once an old Irish schoolhouse which has been lovingly restored, retaining much of its original character and charm. The accommodation sleeps 2-4 people as it has a large Master bedroom with double bed and a sofa bed. The Irish cottage is very spacious and furnished with a mix of contemporary and traditional style. There is an outdoor patio located within a private courtyard area that leads to inviting lush green fields. The sounds and smells of the wonderful countryside surround the cottage and it is a great place to enjoy country walks. Killary Manor is within walking distance and is also available to book for large groups.

Lobinstown is a quaint little village with and the busy market town of Navan is only 10 minutes away. There are many things to see and do in the region. The famous ancient UNESCO world heritage site of Newgrange is only 20 miles away from the cottage. Newgrange, best known for the Winter Solstice, is over 5,000 years old and attracts millions of visitors. The 18th century village of Slane is only 15 minutes from the cottage. The village is famous for the Hill of Slane, where Saint Patrick lit the Pascal Fire and Slane Castle where international rock concerts are held every summer. The village overlooks the River Boyne site of the 17th century Battle of the Boyne, remembered as one of the most significant battles in Irish history. Other excellent heritage sites are the Hill of Tara and Trim Castle.

County Meath and the bordering county of Kildare are internationally acclaimed for equestrian centres and racecourses. Gripping race meetings are held at Navan Racecourse, Fairyhouse Racecourse, Naas Racecourse, Punchestown and The Curragh. Horse lovers will thoroughly enjoy visiting the Irish National Stud in Kildare especially during foaling season. Dublin City Centre is only an hour away with an abundance of historic sights and excellent shopping, pubs and restaurants.
