A pleasant market town in southern County Monaghan, Carrickmacross is well known for it's quality lace. The local nuns were largely responsible for the revival of this traditional craft and the lace can be bought at The Gallery Centre where demonstrations of the craft are staged. The surrounding area has good coarse fishing.
