Banagher, in the west of County Offaly, lies on the banks of the River Shannon. Tourist facilities are good with a modern marina which caters to boaters, anglers and water-sports enthusiasts.

Autumn and winter are good for spotting local wildlife such as the corncrake, otters and minx. There's a host of impressive architecture and historical sites in the area.
