Clonmel is the county town of County Tipperary and lies on the north bank of the River Suir, north of the Comeragh Mountains. Clonmell has a rich history stretching back to at least the 12th century.
It is particularly famous since the town walls withstood Cromwell's troops for three weeks in 1650. The town and area has a host of interesting cultural and histori attractions such as Tipperary County Museum, art galleries and St. Patrick's Well with it's bubbling springs and ancient stone cross. The town has good facilities for the tourist.
