The administrative centre for County Westmeath, Mullingar is located near Lakes Owel and Ennell which are extremely well regarded by anglers.

Also nearby is Lough Derravaragh with its legendary status as the place where the mythic Children of Lir spent 300 years. The town is also known for it's production of fine pewter goods.  Self catering Mullingar visitors are well catered for with with good restaurants and pubs.
