The thriving business centre of Arklow was historically a busy sea port. It is a useful base for self catering Arklow tourists to visit the rest of Wicklow. The town has a number of good restauraunts, shops, a multi screen cinema and a small maritime museum. There is a beach 10km to the north at Brittas Bay and Clogga Beach is only 6 km south. It is beautifully located at the mouth of the River Avoca.
